Cambridge (Old English: Grantebridge) is a city and the county town of Cambridgeshire, England. It once served as an important trading centre from the Roman Empire through to the Viking Age.
History[edit | edit source]
Medieval period[edit | edit source]
Cambridge was originally part of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia under the name Grantebridge. In the early 870s, the Great Summer Army led by jarls Guthrum and Soma invaded and captured the city. Under Soma's rule, Grantebridge rapidly developed from a small town into a prosperous and powerful trading city.[1]
In 873, Saxon troops led by the Order of the Ancients member Wigmund retook Grantebridge from the Vikings, having been led to a secret tunnel entrance beneath the longhouse[1] by a traitorous Galinn, one of Soma's most trusted advisors.[2] With the aid of the Raven Clan shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir, Soma recaptured the city,[1] killed Wigmund,[3] and uncovered Galinn as the traitor within her ranks.[2]
Modern times[edit | edit source]
In 2019, the Assassin My'shell Lemair travelled to Cambridge along with Aliyah Kahn to rescue Gavin Banks, who was held captive by the Templar Fahad Khan at the Isaac Newton Cambridge Museum. With the help of Shaun Hastings' AI program named after himself, they managed to free Gavin and assassinate Fahad.[4]
