Yodo River (淀川), also known as the Seta River (瀬田川) or the Uji River (宇治川), is a river in Japan that goes through Osaka Prefecture from Lake Biwa.[1] During the Sengoku period, it went through the regions Izumi Settsu and Ōmi.[2]
History[edit | edit source]
In 1582, Portuguese Templars Gaspar and Ermigo planned to kill influential locals along the river and replace them with their own allies. However, their translator Rufino discovered their plans, aided by his research, and ran from them, traveling to his old friend Tomiko.[3] At her homestead, he met with Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke and enlisted their help to stop the Templars.[4]
With Rufino's betrayal, they enacted their plan and hired a group of killers to assassinate the locals. Fortunately, Naoe and Yasuke hunted down the killers along the river, ending the Templars' plans to expand their influence.[5] From their investigation, Naoe and Yasuke determined Gaspar and Ermigo's location to be at Kashiwabara Fortress and thus left to confront them there.[3]
