The plot began with Nicolaus Copernicus sharing his teachings to a crowd within the [[Palazzo Senatorio]], in clear defiance against the [[Templars]]' wishes. As Ezio arrived, Vatican guards arrived to kill Copernicus in order to prevent his teachings from spreading. With this, Ezio saved Copernicus and escorted him to a small safehouse outside the [[Colosseo]]. Copernicus, wanting to warn the other scholars in Rome, gave Ezio letters to hand to them before they were assassinated by the guards. While it was too late for one of the scholars, the others managed to escape.

Ezio tailed a cardinal to a meeting with the Master and overheard a discussion of five of Rome's best guards going out to deal with the situation. Ezio killed them and then reported back to Copernicus, who informed him that there was a lunar eclipse he wished to chronicle.

Under the eclipse, Ezio rushed back to kill the guards before they get to Copernicus, and after this, Copernicus indulged Ezio with some of his findings. Copernicus then thanked Ezio, and the two went their separate ways.

Copernicus Conspiracy is a free downloadable content (DLC) addition for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, originally released exclusively for the PlayStation 3. The DLC is included in the remastered version of Brotherhood as part of The Ezio Collection, and was also released for PC in May 2017.

Comprising eight memories, the DLC focuses on the famed astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus and the efforts of Ezio Auditore to protect him from the Templars, who do not want Copernicus to educate the public about astronomy.

Plot[edit | edit source]

In 1500, Nicolaus Copernicus shares his teachings with a crowd near the Palazzo Senatorio, in clear defiance against the Templars' wishes. As Ezio arrives, Borgia soldiers show up to kill Copernicus and prevent his teachings from spreading. Ezio protects Copernicus and dispatches the guards before escorting the astronomer to a small safehouse near the Colosseum.

Copernicus, wanting to warn the other scholars in Rome, gives Ezio letters to hand to them before they are assassinated by the guards. While it is too late for one of the scholars, who is killed by an arquebusier, Ezio is able to warn the others and they choose to flee Rome.

Returning to Copernicus, Ezio is informed of who is responsible for the purge: the Master of the Sacred Palace, a man appointed by the Pope to keep Rome's philosophy pure. Ezio proceeds to tail a cardinal to a meeting with the Master and overhears that the latter has dispatched his best guards to deal with the situation.

Ezio kills each of the five executioners before they can reach their intended targets, and reports back to Copernicus. Having decided he will not allow the threat looming over him to hinder his research, Copernicus reveals that he will be out in public that night to chronicle a lunar eclipse. To protect the astronomer, Ezio decides to eliminate the Master, but with his dying wrods, the latter reveals that he has already dispatched guards to kill Copernicus.

Ezio rushes back to Copernicus and arrives in time to save his life once again, killing all the guards. Grateful for Ezio's assistance, Copernicus thanks him and explains his theory that the Sun is at the center of the universe rather than the Earth, and his belief that humanity will one day reach space. The two then watch the eclipse together before going their separate ways.
