Edirne,[1] historically known as Adrianople,[2] is a city in northwestern Turkey.
History[edit | edit source]
In 1509, due to the recent earthquake,[2] ailing Sultan Bayezid II moved from his accommodations at Topkapı Palace in Constantinople to a new palace in Adrianople.[1][2] While there, vizier Taha Pasha grew agitated and concerned with his Sultan, due to his health and witless routine, and began looking for the next Sultan, deciding to support Selim. Meanwhile, the vizier worked carefully with the Ottoman Assassins to protect Sultan Bayezid from an attempt on his life by the Byzantine Templars.[2]
In 1511, Sofia Sartor was planning to travel to Adrianople to visit a new printing press. She asked the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze to accompany her and serve as her escort, but Ezio politely turned her down, explaining that he did not have time for the trip due to his ongoing mission to find the Masyaf Keys.[3]
