Smuggler dens were hideouts used by smugglers to store their wares. Most of them were located inside caverns throughout the Caribbean, allowing the smugglers to avoid detection by the major navies operating in the region.[1]
During his travels in the early 18th century, the pirate and Assassin Edward Kenway found and explored several smuggler dens, looting their valuables. These included Anotto Bay on the northern coast of Jamaica, Ambergris Key on an island off the coast of Belize, Jiguey and San Juan in northern and southern Cuba respectively, and Petite Caverne to the south of Tortuga.[1]
