Topicality[edit source]

In the case of [Holy Roman Empire]] you could have created a page named Germany on which it reads "on the land which now Germany stands, there once was a country called The Holy Roman Empire" ...! But that would be stupid.

"Israel is a state formed in 1948 in the Middle East located on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. During the middle ages, the region of Palestine, which is the land at which the State of Israel was created in the year 1948..." isn't that funny? During the crusades there were many countries on the holy land, among their names: Syria, Palestine, Kingdom of Jerusalem, Shamat, etc; but Israel is not one of them. If in the yet-to-be-released AC games we find anything related to Israel, we can create a page with that name and write an article about that matters. But for this article I don't think this is the most suitable name. --Imam of Alamout 18:47, July 1, 2011 (UTC)

An Article of no Relevance...[edit source]

Through my few edits I learned that politics have no place in this wiki, thus my comment here comes forth... Israel is a mere political entity, to base a series of other articles on this article is expressing political views. Imagine the events of a game took place in Qing-dynasty China, would there be an article in the game's wiki titled "The People's Republic of China" given the creators (or admins) of that wiki forbid expressing politics? This article is completely irrelevant to the series, as the region in which the events took place went through many political transformations, thus to mention Israel is not to mention a geographical fact, but to mention a political entity. One can, for an instance, make an article titled with the region (Palestine for an example is a popular name for the region). If you insist on making this wiki politically oriented, one can have an article titled "The Ayyubid Dynasty" alongside "The Kingdom of Jerusalem," which define the political status of the region during the times of the game, but "Israel" is entirely irrelevant to the series, as it has also been never mentioned in the game as so. By your logic then neither should the Syria article or most of the entires to the countries category as they could all easily be called into question too. The fact is that the article provides enough information to highlight the relevance and the dynastic changes that occurred during that period to justify it as being an article while showing the backstory to the Assassins/Templar conflict BUT I do agree with your point that it could be renamed to a more suitable name as long as it is a name that is easily recognizable to the mass audience that the AC series appeals to. That is exactly what I was saying. But remember that Syria is also a historical name. Like the name Palestine. And Israel is also a historical name, but in this article we are talking about Palestine and not Israel. Because we are talking about the crusades and during the crusades everyone called it Palestine. --Imam of Alamout 05:10, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Merge?[edit source]

Why is this proposed to be merged with Levant under this title when most of the info in the Levant page is about Syria? Going on the record, I disagree with the merge. - Soranin (talk) 22:58, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

I assume they it was meant the other way around. The banner was probably formatted incorrectly. But I also disagree with the merge. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 02:56, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Sora, the Levant isn't the same thing as Syria even if most of "the Levant"'s content is set in what is now presently the country of Syria. The Levant is a geographical region which encompasses both Israel and Syria. I think I originally added the merge proposal because I figured at the time that we didn't need an article specifically dedicated to the country of Israel since all the content concerning it can be covered in "the Levant" and notwithstanding this, Israel as a country has never made an appearance in Assassin's Creed media and has only been mentioned, thereby putting into question whether it should have a separate article. I don't recall what was the result of the merge proposal in our forum discussion.
While I'm at it, just in case this is a necessary reminder, Syria as a country did not exist at the time of the Assassin state as Syria is a modern sovereign state created out of the European colonial partition of the Ottoman Empire after World War I. However, Syria did exist since antiquity as a regional and provincial name, but I was always opposed to using it to any extent but sparingly because of how often it misleads fans into anachronistically applying "Syrian" to everyone who happened to live in what would later become the Syria Arab Republic's borders when it is dubious those people would have referred to themselves as such. This is why all content in Syria was merged with the Levant, and why the Levant should not be equated with "Syria" since the Levant is a broader geographical term under which Israel also falls under. Sol, I know this. My issue was that the template said it wanted it merged under Israel rather than under Levant. - Soranin (talk) 03:50, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Oh, huh. That would be my bad lol. Both for when I put up the template and just now for misunderstanding. Well, I'll fix the template, but just to let you guys know, I'm pretty ambivalent on this merge now. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 04:41, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
