Solon (died in the 420s BCE) was a Thasian athlete and the elder brother of Ide in the 5th century BCE Thasos, Greece.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Solon and Ide were bereaved of their parents at some point in their lives, and afterwards the siblings were all each of them had. Solon pursued a career as an Olympic athlete, and Ide tagged along, watching him.[1]
Around 420s BCE, Solon partook of tampered wine at Karpos' house. Unbeknownst to him, a special concoction created by a local doctor at the behest of the Cult of Kosmos had been mixed into the wine, and like so many other Thasian athletes, Solon succumbed to it. Taken to Silenos Cave until the potion ran its course, Solon was rendered a shadow of his former self.[2]
Instead of becoming an enhanced human as intended, Solon became a childlike man, with difficulties keeping track of his own thoughts and remembering things. In this state, he was taken to Aliki Quarry and put to work there, like so many of his peers.[3]
Sometime later, Solon met the Spartan misthios Kassandra as she came to the quarry to investigate what had happened to the Thasian athletes, namely Neleus, the nephew of Barnabas, the captain of Kassandra's ship Adrestia. Solon told Kassandra of the doctor, who hadn't been seen for a while, and whose absence made the workers sick, as only the doctor could give them the 'medicine'.[3]
However, the people behind the athletes' predicament learned that Kassandra was after them, and decided to end their Thasian experiment. They stormed the quarry and killed all the people they encountered, including Solon, before Kassandra could stop them. Before Solon passed, however, he saw his sister, who had followed Kassandra into the quarry.[4]
