Ide was a Thasian girl and the little sister of the athlete Solon in the 5th century BCE Thasos, Greece.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Ide and Solon were bereaved of their parents at some point in their lives, and afterwards the siblings were all each of them had. While Solon pursued a career as an Olympic athlete, Ide tagged along, watching him.[1]

Around 420s BCE, Solon vanished, and Ide was left to fend for herself. She tried to seek out her brother, but other athletes in the Champion's Gymnasium laughed her out, and threatened to beat her if she tried to get in.[1]

This incident was witnessed by the Spartan misthios Kassandra, and she intervened. Ide told her her story, and Kassandra agreed to help her, as she, too, was looking into what was going on with the Thasian athletes.[1][2]

Ide followed Kassandra over the course of her investigation, and learned that her brother was in the Aliki Quarry. Hurrying to the quarry, Ide arrived in time to only say farewell to her brother before he died.[3]
