The Kawachi Kaza-ana Cave was a cave in eastern Ōmi, Japan.
History[edit | edit source]
By 1582, a local woman began living in the cave and seducing wanderers every winter, only to kill them and then eat their remains. This occurred until the Kakushiba ikki members Yasuke and Fujibayashi Naoe came to investigate rumors of the yōkai Yuki-onna's alleged presence at the request of the monk Mamushi. They soon came across the woman in the winter and entered the cave following her. Inside, they saw her victims and subsequently assassinated the crazed woman. They then acquired the katana Violet Night from her personal effects.[1]
Upon further inspection, Naoe and Yasuke also discovered a dead yamabushi imposter as one of the woman's victims and read a letter from his personal effects dictating his mission from Lord Oda Nobunaga.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
