Database: Fire and Ice Creatures (Kaldstad)

Hel's earliest experiments in the reanimation of dead flesh were focused on using elemental properties to energize organic matter into a semblance of life. Her initial successes were limited to animal constructs of relatively low sentience which nevertheless possessed sufficient residual animal instinct to make the fierce guardians in select areas.
Fire seemed like the most obvious element to simulate the life-supporting energy of warm-blooded animals. The boar and wolf varieties were among the first to find practical applications. Though these creatures burn bright, their manifestations are relatively short-lived and exposure to intense cold or sudden dramatic drops in temperature can trigger an early demise.
Through the research and development of the fire-fueled beasts, Hel and her elementalists were able to engineer their antithesis: unnatural animals utterly devoid of heat. Liker their fiery kin, these cold-based creatures possess shorter lifespans than their natural counterparts and their constitutions are more susceptible to bursts of electricity.
