Assassin's Creed III Remastered is a 2019 remaster of the 2012 action-adventure video game Assassin's Creed III. It was developed by Ubisoft Barcelona as opposed to Ubisoft Montreal, the studio behind the original.
It was released on 29 March 2019 on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. A Nintendo Switch port was released on 21 May 2019.
Assassin's Creed III Remastered offers a substantial upgrade over the original, addressing some of the shortcomings seen in previous remaster efforts, such as Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection. This new version includes enhanced art assets, a revamped lighting system, and numerous gameplay tweaks. Notable improvements include a more detailed mini-map, an expanded crafting system, and elements of the stealth system from later series entries. Additionally, the remaster bundles all the original game's downloadable content and a remastered port of Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD.[1] The multiplayer mode did not make a return.[2]
Visually, Assassin's Creed III Remastered stands out with its new physically-based rendering lighting system, improved textures, and effects, including enhanced bloom, depth of field, and screen-space reflections. Performance across consoles has been significantly improved, with more stable frame rates and higher resolutions, particularly on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. However, the Xbox One S version sees a lower resolution and some performance issues. Liberation, included in the package, also benefits from enhanced resolution and performance, especially on the more powerful consoles. Overall, Ubisoft's effort brings meaningful improvements to Assassin's Creed III.[1] The Nintendo Switch is mostly based on the original PS3/Xbox 360/ Wii U releases, but the port included slight graphical enhancments and improvements to gameplay mechanics, as well as several exclusive features such as motion-controlled aiming, a HUD optimized for the Nintendo Switch, a touchscreen interface, HD rumble, and, of course, portability.[3]
