Argyll is a shire and a county in western Scotland. The name is derived from the Old Gaelic phrase airer Goídel, which translates to the border region of Gaels.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

During the Viking invasion of the British Isles, the villages of Argyll were often raided by Vikings. In response, witch-warriors guarded and protected their people from the invaders. During a raid on one of the communities, a young Celtic girl named Niamh burned down the raiders' longship, which sent the Vikings to retreat into the dangerous wilderness. Following in her mother's footsteps, Niamh grew up to be the witch-warrior of her village, protecting and aiding its people in their times of need.[2]

In 878, Niamh was peacefully meditating and being one with nature, until her apprentice, Birdie, came to find her. Birdie handed Niamh two letters which dictated that Niamh become a spy for her people and the Women of the Mist from Avalon. The letter further stated that Niamh had to go under the name of Nimue, infiltrate the Hidden Ones, and discover their true intentions. Immediately, Niam, accompanied by Birdie, went to prepare herself for her mission and the long journey to Lunden, Mercia, where she could find and begin investigating the Hidden Ones.[2]
