Cult of the Iron Mask was a religious cult active in Franciade during the French Revolution.

During the reign of Louis XIV of France, a mysterious prisoner with an iron mask was held in various French prisons. Popular rumor held that the man was Louis XIV's illegitimate son, but the identity was never proven.[1]

By August 1794, a cult had emerged whose members fervently worshipped the man in the iron mask, even going so far as to dress in ragged clothes and wear iron masks themselves. Within the group, their subject of devotion was referred to as "The Guest", who they believed would return in accordance with a prophecy to reclaim the throne and usher in a new era.[2]

The Assassin Arno Dorian soon heard of the cult's activities and decided to investigate. Locating a meeting spot, he attempted to infiltrate it but was forced to kill all the members present when they attacked him. Inspecting the room, he found instructions from the cult's Grand Master stating that three keys were required to open the door to The Guest's chamber. Arno found the keys and opened the door to a richly decorated bedroom, where he uncovered Louis XIV's memoirs and surmised that the cult's figurehead had in fact been dead for nearly a century. With the prophesy proven false, the cultists disbanded, never to be heard from again.[2]
