Gaston Maspero

Sir Gaston Camille Charles Maspero (1846 – 1916) was a French archaeologist and Egyptologist.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1867, Maspero met Auguste Mariette and studied under him.^[1] After the latter's death in 1881, Maspero succeeded him as director-general of the Antiquities Service. He expanded and reorganized it and instigated laws regulating the export of artifacts.^[2]
