Aarhus, also known as Aros in Icelandic, is the second-largest city in Denmark that was once a heavily-fortified town during the Middle Ages.

In the 10th century, the town was where the army of King Harald Bluetooth of Denmark and Norway was defeated by a naval fleet commanded by the Swedish prince Styrbjörn the Strong. After being defeated in battle, Harald was forced to submit to Styrbjörn and give up his fleet and himself as hostage in the prince's conflict against King Eric the Victorious.[1]
