Zahra (died c. 860s), also known as Al-Zarik or The Book Burner, was an Arab scholar and a member of the Order of the Ancients who frequent the House of Wisdom in Baghdad during the 9th century.

Biography

In the early 860s, Zahra had obtained a mysterious book of an unknown language. She later forced the scholar Hunayn ibn Ishaq from the House of Wisdom to translate it by threat of death, imprisoning him within the Scriptorium. Zahra later arrived back at her estate, surrounded by her Turkic guards and servants. While relieving herself, she upright dismissed her superior's obsession with the disk while stating her desire to become Head of the Order after having the book translated. However, around this time, she was being hunted by the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq, who waited for her return at her estate, whereupon she was promptly assassinated by him.[1]

Behind the scenes

While Basim was investigating the Scriptorium, he found a romantic passage sent to her from fellow Order member, Al-Azhdaha, who was also frequented the House of Wisdom.[1]
