Youxia in the Palace was a virtual representation of one of Wei Yu's disciple's genetic memories.
Description
Wei Yu's student and their friend Chu Huan were tasked with infiltrating Yangzhou Palace and retrieving a stolen treasure.
Dialogue
- Narrator: Having received the information he came to the West for, Wei Yu begins his voyage home, and we shift perspectives to the East to follow you, his disciple, as you follow up on a lead given to you by an informant, and prepare to infiltrate Yangzhou Palace to reclaim a stolen treasure for the people. On the roofs of the palace, you and Chu Huan take note of the guard movements. Chu Huan jokes about competing to see who can get the treasure first, and leaps down to begin the infiltration.
- Chu Huan: I'll distract them. You take them out.
- Wei Yu's disciple: There are far too many attendants for a supposedly empty palace...
They assassinated a guard.
- Guard 1: Tonight is a special night. So many of us are on duty.
The disciple proceeded to clear the courtyard of guards.
- Guard 2: When will our shift be over?
- Wei Yu's disciple: I should not tarry any longer in this warehouse.
Having eliminated all the soldiers, they approached a wall.
- Wei Yu's disciple: The inner garden is just beyond this wall.
- Chu Huan: You're getting better at this.
The pair jumped over the wall.
- Chu Huan: Quickly, get down.
They hid among the flowers, but one guard was alerted and approached the two.
- Chu Huan: Stay in the shadows and wait for his approach.
The disciple assassinated guard.
- Chu Huan: This is a good spot, why don't you whistle to draw their attention?
The disciple whistled and attracted another nearby guard, who they also assassinated.
- Chu Huan: So, is the bet on?
- Wei Yu's disciple: Alright, alright, we'll decide on a winner tonight.
- Chu Huan: Fastest person to complete the mission and get out of the palace will win absolute seniority and respect for tonight.
They moved through the gardens to the palace itself.
- Wei Yu's disciple: I should be careful and move through the bushes.
They continued on, killing or bypassing guards on the way.
- Wei Yu's disciple: That small hill looks like it could reach the second floor of the palace.
They climbed up to the second floor and found Chu Huan already waiting for them.
- Chu Huan: You're fast, but you can't outrun me.
They climbed a ladder onto hanging beams.
- Chu Huan: If our informant is right, the treasure is in the bedchamber on the second floor. We'll have to climb the beams ad sneak in through the storage room. Think you can handle that?
- Narrator: Making your way across the beams, you stumble upon a tense conversation between two men of high station—Zhao Gao, the Emperor's advisor and Meng Tian, the Grand General. Curiously, they pass veiled threats between one another, hinting at discord within the upper echelons of the empire. As their conversation heats up, however... the door to the bedchamber slides open and the Emperor of China himself strides out. Both men humble themselves in front of the passing Emperor, and follow him out of the room as he leaves.
Chu Han and the disciple opened the door to the bedchamber.
- Chu Huan: The way is clear. What did our informant say about the treasure?
- Wei Yu's disciple: She said it was a treasure stolen from a poor farmer by a corrupt official.
They picked up the treasure.
- Wei Yu's disciple: On my honor as a youxia, I will return this treasure to the people.
- Chu Huan: You still say that every time?
- Wei Yu's disciple: Hush, I hear something.
As the pair left the chamber, they were attacked by guards alerted to their presence.
- Guard 3: Stop right there.
The two swiftly eliminated the guards in the room.
- Chu Huan: Quick, this way! Follow me.
The student followed their friend out.
- Chu Huan: Through the window! Hurry!
They jumped out and hid in a flower bed.
- Chu Huan: Hold on, there are guards approaching.
A group of guards ran by.
- Guard 4: Don't let the assassins get away!
- Guard 5: Protect the Emperor!
- Guard 6: Keep searching! They can't have gotten far.
They kept moving and ran through a passage between two buildings.
- Chu Huan: Stay low, keep to the shadows.
They hid behind a crate stacked against the wall.
- Guard 7: The assassins are running away!
- Narrator: Just as you approach the gate, a group of Qin guards appear to block your escape. Standing back to back, you and Chu Huan prepare to fight the surrounding Qin guards when your other companion, Yu Ying, leaps from a low wall to create an opening for escape.
The trio reconvened outside the palace.
- Yu Ying: What would the two of you do without me?
- Chu Huan: We were doing just fine, Ying.
- Wei Yu's disciple: Yingying is right to be concerned. We didn't expect so many guards to turn up. Much less the Emperor himself.
- Yu Ying: The Emperor? But Jingjing's intel is never wrong.
- Wei Yu's disciple: I'll speak to her when we get back. Let's focus on getting home safe for now.
Yu Ying started leading them away and playfully taunted them about the escapade.
- Yu Ying: So, did someone win the title of seniority tonight?
- Chu Huan: There was no clear winner. Although, I probably would have won if things didn't go south.
- Wei Yu's disciple: I'm not so sure about that.
- Yu Ying: Well, if the two of you are still up for a challenge...
She started running.
- Wei Yu's disciple: Are you suggesting a race?
- Yu Ying: I never said that, but we do need to get to the tower quickly... We still have some distance to the beacon tower...
- Chu Huan: Say no more. We'll settle this tonight. Fastest climber wins.
Chu Huan took a zipline and was quickly followed by the disciple.
- Chu Huan: Is that the fastest you've got?
- Wei Yu's disciple: Big talk for a slow guy.
They raced through a section of the Great Wall. The disciple soon reached a series of upright scaffolding poles. Chen Huan hopped across them.
- Chu Huan: Let's see if you've been training your footwork.
- Wei Yu's disciple: Hah, this is nothing.
They continued and reached another zipline.
- Chu Huan: Woo!
- Wei Yu's disciple: I haven't done this in so long.
- Chu Huan: You'd best hang on tight!
They reached a lift to a higher wall section.
- Wei Yu's disciple: Up we go.
- Chu Huan: There we go. This is easy!
The racers finally reached Yangzhou Watchtower.
- Wei Yu's disciple: Steady now... Keep the pace...
- Chu Huan: The final stretch! Come on!
- Wei Yu's disciple: This is it, I'm not giving up!
They climbed up the watchtower, but as at the palace, Chu Huan had beaten the disciple again.
- Chu Huan: Looks like someone will be pouring wine for me tonight.
- Wei Yu's disciple: How about double or nothing? First one back down wins superiority. And no cleaning duties for a month.
- Chu Huan: Hah! You just don't know when to admit you're beat, do ya? You're on!
The disciple saw a beam jutting out from the battlements.
- Wei Yu's disciple: I bet if I climbed up that beam. I could use it to my advantage. I should take a good look before I leap.
They synchronized the viewpoint
- Wei Yu's disciple: This looks like the perfect spot to leap.
They performed a Leap of Faith into a hay pile at the tower's base and entered the region of Northern Shangjun. They exited the pile and stood proud of their victory.
- Wei Yu's disciple: Ha! Flawless.
- Chu Huan: Hah, that was foolish but impressive. I'll admit that.
- Wei Yu's disciple: Well then, I expect the chores to be done first thing in the morning.
Yu Ying approached the two.
- Yu Ying: Are you mad? That jump was dangerous.
The disciple shrugged.
- Wei Yu's disciple: A win is a win.
- Yu Ying: Alright. Anyway, from here on, we'll travel separately to avoid suspicion. Our mounts are close by, call them and we'll head back home.
Outcome
Wei Yu's disciple successfully entered the palace with Chu Han and reclaimed the stolen treasure. On their way out, they eavesdropped on veiled threats between General Meng Tian and the Emperor's advisor Zhao Gao, before narrowly escaping the Emperor himself spotting them. After their comrade Yu Ying saved them as they fled the palace grounds, she proposed a race to a nearby watchtower, which the student ultimately won.
