Oidipous (died 47 BCE) was a Roman citizen of Cyrene, Cyrenaica who lived during the 1st century BCE.

Biography

The son of the prostitute named Vesta, he embarked on a quest of vengeance against three men who he believed to be involved in her death, including his father Akakios.[1]

According to Akakios, Oidipous was androgynous, and on at least one occasion, he dressed up as a woman to kill Paulus Aurelius.[1]

Behind the scenes

The name of the character is a variant of the name Oedipous, alluding to the figure in Greek mythology, who ended up killing his father and marrying his mother.
