Soldiers of the Turkic Army

The Turkic Army was an medieval military force formed from the bulk of the Turks that inhabited West Asia. During the region's domination by the Abbasid Caliphate, the army was adopted by the empire as one of their primary armed forces, many of whom were slaves in Arab households.

In the 9th century, the Turkic Army were employed as mercenaries in the Abbasid capital of Baghdad, where they primarily resided in the Sharqiyah district. There, the Turkic soldiers were commanded by Warlord Wasif Al Turki, a Turkic general serving the caliphate and a member of the Order of the Ancients. Under him were Nadir ibn Havid who commanded the the city's navy and Jasoor ibn Basil who led the army against the Zanj rebels, both of whom were also Order members.[1]
