The Seized Oikos

The Seized Oikos was a residence taken over by the Greeks during the 1st BCE in the Ptolemaic Kingdom. It was located in Faiyum, west of Euhemeria.

In 48 BCE, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa passed by the place and discovered a crowd of protesters in front of the house objecting to Greek governance. Bayek sneaked behind the residence and looted the valuables within.[1]

Trivia

  • Oikos is an ancient Greek word meaning 'the family's property', indicating that the owner of the residence was a local Greek.
