Rothenburg was an Assassin informant in Abstergo Industries who sent information to the Assassins about the Templars activities. Rothenburg's identity has to date remained anonymous and Gavin Banks continues to trust the informant, as they had never asked for anything in return and if they had, he would've terminated the operation. Mute for a long time, Rothenburg resumed contact with Griffin in 2016 to inform him of the kidnapping of several teenagers.

Owen Meyers suspected that the identity of Rothenburg was Cole, an Abstergo field agent who freed Sebastian Monroe from captivity at the Aerie and helped Monroe, Owen, and Grace Collins sneak aboard transportation to Mongolia. However, when Owen remarked that Cole was Rothenburg, Cole told him that she didn't know what he was talking about. Monroe would then explain that Cole helped them in order to repay a past debt she owed him.
