Biography

In 1521, Humabon met the Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellanwho was leading an expedition to seemingly discover gold and spices. Magellan convinced Humabon to convert to Catholicism and to turn Cebu into a colony of the Spanish Empire.[1]

In reality, the expedition was a facade for Magellan, who sought to locate an treasure left behind by Those Who Came Before. Although he succeed in finding the artifact, Humabon revealed to Magellan that it was only a fragment of a larger piece of artifact. Magellan used this information from Humabon to lead an army to the nearby Mactan Island to claim the artifact from Lapu-Lapu, though this resulted in the defeat of the Spanish forces and the death of Magellan.[1]
