Ptahmose (died 38 BCE) was an Egyptian official and member of the Order of the Ancients, operating under the cryptonym The Mason, who served under Gaius Julius Rufio in the Sinai, overseeing the city of Arsinoe in Egypt.
Biography
In 38 BCE, Ptahmose was assassinated in his camp in Arsinoe by the Hidden One Bayek of Siwa, thus stopping his pillaging of Egyptian temples and monuments.[1]
Personality and characteristics
Ptahmose was a cruel man. He pushed his workers too hard and made examples out of those who stepped out of line. He was not above ordering his guards to torture his prisoners for information.[1]
Despite being an Egyptian, Ptahmose was willing to pillage Egyptian monuments such as the Temple of Horus and Amenmesse's pyramid in order to fund the wars of Egypt and Rome while centralizing all riches in Alexandria and Rome.[1]
Ptahmose held on to the belief that the Order would last forever until his final moments, telling Bayek just before his death at the Hidden One's hands.[1]
Trivia
- Ptahmose's name, transliterated as ptḥ-ms, means "Ptah is born". Ptah was the Egyptian god of craftsmanship and architecture.
