Poitiers is a city and commune in west-central France located on the Clain river.

History[edit | edit source]

In early-March 1429, while training in the ways of the Assassins with Jean de Metz at the Château du Milieu, Gabriel Laxart received a letter from his step-cousin Jeanne d'Arc that she had arrived in the city and awaited his arrival with her sword.[1]

On 12 March, while Jeanne was staying with the family of Jean Rabateau, Gabriel and de Metz arrived with her sword. Jean d'Alençon was also present, having stayed with Jeanne in that time. In its newly crafted sheath, Gabriel handed Jeanne the sword which glowed at her touch. She then gave a rousing speech about marching upon Orléans and gained support of a crowd.[2]

In the following weeks, Jeanne underwent interrogations by the clergy who doubted her claims.[3]

On 21 February 1431, Jeanne's time in Poitiers was brought up during her trial for witchcraft.[4]
