Philocrates

Philocrates of Kanopos was the father of Nikias. He owned the Zephyros Stables and estate in Kanopos during the 1st century BCE.

Biography

Philocrates was a second-generation resident of Kanopos. Owning an estate and stables in the town, he used it to train horses for the Prasina Green, the chariot racing team he patronized.[1]

In 48 BCE, Philocrates was introduced by Nikias to the Medjay of Siwa, Bayek, who was an old friend of Claridas, a member of the Veneta Blue. Due to Bayek's experience as a former racer, Philocrates invited him to take Nikias out on a ride around town. While they were gone, a group of bandits attacked the stable, stealing one of Philocrates' horse, Saganaki, in the process.[2]

When Bayek and Nikias returned, Philocrates informed them of what had happened, prompting Nikias to lead Bayek and a group of Prasina Green members to retrieve the horse. They eventually succeeded in doing so, with Bayek riding the horse back to the stables. Philocrates thanked the Medjay and expressed his hopes that he would represent the Prasina Green if he ever were to compete in the Lageion Hippodrome.[2]
