"Mayday, mayday...! This is a distress call from the Medan! Our vessel is shipwrecked. The captain and the entire crew are dead, their bodies scattered all over the chart room and the bridge. They're all dead. Every last one of them. And before long... I will join them."

SS Ourang Medan

The SS Ourang Medan was a ship used by Abstergo Industries during their early years after the company's founding.

History

In the 1940s, the Ourang Medan was deployed to the sea near the Straits of Malacca in an attempt to recover a crescent-shaped Piece of Eden that had been hidden there. The mission ended in failure and the vessel became a shipwreck, with the artifact remaining there.[1] Stories later emerged about the circumstances surrounding the ship's disappearance until the tales became urban legend.[2]

In 2023, an Abstergo team led by Shimazu Sei re-discovered the amulet's location within the Medan's shipwreck through the genetic memories of Edward Kenway relived by his descendant, Noa Kim.[1] With a diving bell ship sent by Sei's superiors, Noa and Sei's bodyguard Yuki dived down to locate the artifact.[3]
