The SS Ourang Medan was a ship used by the Abstergo Industries during their the early years after its founding.[1]
In the 1940s, the ship was deployed to the sea near the Straits of Malacca in an attempt to recover the crescent-shaped Piece of Eden that had been deposited there. The mission ended in failure and the vessel became a shipwreck with the artifact remaining there.[1] Stories emerged about the circumstances surrounding the ship and eventually, it became an urban legend.[2]
In the 2020s, an Abstergo team led by Shimazu Sei rediscovered the crescent amulet's location within the shipwreck through the genetic memories relieved by Noa Kim, a descendant of Edward Kenway.[1] With a diving bell ship sent by Sei's superiors, Noa and Sei's bodyguard Yuki, dived down to the shipwreck to locate the artifact.[3]
