Nefertari was an Egyptian woman who served as the chief healer of Nitria in the Saqqara Nome during the reign of Ptolemy XIII.
Biography
In 48 BCE, Nefertari found an unconscious and heavily wounded Bayek outside the Bent Pyramid of Sneferu, bringing him back to Nitria to tend to his wounds. When Bayek regained conscious, he immediately left the mine and returned to Siwa, without giving thanks to Nefertari.[1]After he left, the mine was later plagued by an omen; the shrines of Anubis were disrupted and people either went missing or got injured trying to restore them. In addition, workers started falling sick more often, causing Nefertari much distress.[2]
A few months later, Bayek eventually returned to the mine to give proper thanks to Nefertari for saving his life. Nefertari escorted him through the mine, informing him of the misfortune that had occured after he left. She enlisted his help to restore the shrines of Anubis and investigate the omen so that Nitria can once again be "protected". Bayek agreed, travelling to each site including one in the Bent Pyramid and restored the shrines, while recovering charms of Anubis in the process. When Bayek returned to Nitria, he gave one of the charms to Nefertari, who assured Bayek that she would look into it. Before the Medjay left, Nefertari enlisted his help once more, this time to accompany her assistant, Suphia, to aid the rebels in the nome.[2]
