Miyamoto Musashi

Miyamoto Musashi (宮本 武蔵; 1584-1645) was a legendary Japanese swordsman, philosopher, strategist, writer and rōnin. Musashi was renowned through stories of his unique double-bladed swordsmanship and undefeated record of 61 duels. He was the founder of the Niten Ichi-ryū or Nito Ichi-ryū, style of swordsmanship, and authored The Book of Five Rings and Dokkodo. He was also the owner of the legendary sword Musashi Masamune.

Two centuries after his death, Miyamoto's sword was kept under the protection of Saigo Kayano, an incompetent samurai lord aligned with the Tokugawa shogunate. The Masamune was also a key target for British Templar William Lloyd, who wanted to steal the blade from the Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins. However, Nakano Takeko and her protégé Shiba Atsuko would keep the blade safe from the Templars after Ibuka distracted "Masajiro", secretly the Assassin spy Matsuo, long enough to buy them some time.
