Amélie Monvoisin was the daughter of Marguerite Monvoisin and one of the granddaughters of Catherine Monvoisin, who was better known as the poisoner "La Voisin" ("The Neighbor").[1]

Biography

After Marguerite carried on with the family business. she later had two daughters, Amélie and Valérie Monvoisin.[1] In a document, both sisters learned that her fortune was to be given to the next eldest female in the family, which was Valérie. For Amélie, Valérie gave her the jewelry their mother left behind that she considered useless. However, Amélie wanted to be free from her sister's grasp and attain the family fortune herself. Unfortunately, her mother's fortune was in her late husband's control due to the law.[2]

During the French Revolution, Amélie, other family members, and friends convened at a dinner party, despite Valérie contending with family friend Georges Villiers-Segonzac over her late husband's will about her mother's fortune. Belligerent and rude, Valérie became inhospitable to many guests, while Amélie enacted her plan. Amélie concocted their family poison and placed it in a trick ring. She then stopped Lucille Tuchet, Valerie's son Pierre Duclos' lover, from giving Valerie the hot chocolate herself. Within that matter of time, she emptied the ring's poison into the hot chocolate and gave it to George to calm down Valerie's temper. Within a short time, Valerie succumbed to the poison and died.[2]

Imprisonment

Amélie played a concerned sister and informed anyone that Valérie was in contention against George. However, the French Assassin Arno Dorian investigated the murder and found evidence of Amélie's crime. He accused Amélie, who revealed the truth, and took her to jail.[2]
