"For all your reputation, I must say, I expected a far stronger response to our presence here."
―Kabeer to the captured Hidden Ones, 860s.[src]-[m]

Kabeer Al-Jund (died 860s) was an Abbasid captain who led a group of Tahirid soldiers to attack the Hidden Ones' camp of Alamut.

Biography

In the 9th century, the area which Alamut was situated in was governed by the Persian Tahirid dynasty. In the early 860s, the Hidden Ones of Alamut procured a deal with the Tahirids to provide them protection from their enemies, the Order of the Ancients who were based in Baghdad.[1] The governor Muhammad ibn Tahir, pressured by the Order who controlled the caliphate, was forced to make a deal in exchange for dissuading Abu 'Abdallah's challenge to the Abbasid throne. He forced his cousin Abdallah ibn Tahir to remove the Tahirids protection on Alamut, leaving the Hidden Ones' camp vulnerable.[2]

Kabeer unwittingly became a pawn of the Order and was sent to lead a force and launch a surprise attack on the camp. Many of the Hidden Ones were slaugtered, and a few them alongside Mentor Rayhan were captured by Kabeer. As the Tahirids prepared to execute them one by one, the Master Assassin Basim Ibn Ishaq returned from Baghdad and eliminated Kabeer and his soldiers.[3]
