Jules Brunet (1838 – 1911) was a French Army officer and a member of the French Brotherhood of Assassins, who played a famous role in the Japanese Boshin War.

Captain Brunet was sent to Japan with the French military mission of 1867 to assist the shōgun Tokugawa Yoshinobu in his efforts of modernization of the Japanese Army. After the abdication of Tokugawa, Brunet choose to stay despite the mission being recalled to France by Emperor Napoleon III.[1]

He later became a General and Chief of Staff of the French Minister of War in 1898.
