Isaiah
- "I am no longer a Templar! I am become death, the destroyer of worlds."
- ―Isaiah quoting J. Robert Oppenheimer[src]
Isaiah (died 2016) was a member of the Templar Order, serving as the director of an Abstergo Industries complex called the Aerie. Isaiah was also a former member of the Instruments of the First Will, but he left the Juno cult to pursue his own plans for global domination.
As Isaiah believed in the cyclical nature of Ragnarök, when the Second Disaster was averted in 2012, he tried to take matters into his own hands with the Trident of Eden to bring about the end of the world so it could be reborn when the cycle was renewed. However, he was stopped by the combined forces of the Assassins and Templars at a final confrontation at the Aerie.
Biography
Plans for world domination
By 2016, he was a member of the Templar Order and made director of the Abstergo institution, the Aerie.[1] However, he was secretly also a member of the Instruments of the First Will.[2] Upon learning about former Abstergo scientist Sebastian Monroe's work with the Ascendance Event and his subsequent leave, Isaiah and the Templars learned about the search for the prongs of the Trident of Eden from Monroe working with a select group of teens.[1] By this time, he started to work for his own personal goal of world domination, separating himself from both factions.[3][2]
Search for the Trident of Eden
The Faith prong
In October 2016,[4] after the Templars captured a team of teenagers using a stolen Animus to find the Trident of Eden, Isaiah and Victoria Bibeau tried to discover what they knew. In order to do so, the two Templars decided to use honesty, with Isaiah confirming that they were both members of the Templar Order and that Abstergo was indeed a front for the secret society but insisted on the benevolence of their organization. They successfully convinced some members of the group, who then revealed to the Templars the location of a dagger which, in actuality, was one of the prongs of the Trident owned by Ulysses S. Grant until his death.[1] However, Isaiah managed to retrieve the dagger, which was the faith prong, before the Assassins and Templars could.[5]
The Voynich manuscript
Overseeing Sean relive his memories as Pinkerton agent Tommy Greyling, Isaiah spoke with him about Precursor box and its pages being stolen and possibly held in London. Isaiah gave Sean a break for the day and then spoke with Victoria at night about the possible lead on the Voynich manuscript, which may help them decipher the locations of the remaining prongs. Despite Victoria's concerns for Sean, Isaiah continued to use him to find the manuscript.[6]
Sean also soon found out from a conversation between Greyling and Mark Twain about the information and mention of the Pieces of Eden in multiple cultures' folklore. Isaiah continued to push Sean into the Animus despite the teen's worries.[7]
After Sean suffered a sudden desynchronization from Greyling being stabbed, Isaiah took him to the infirmary, but this caused Natalya to burst in and blame Isaiah for making Sean addicted to the Animus. However, Sean, along with Grace and David, wanted to continue with their Animus sessions, leaving Natalya fed up. While Sean returns back into Animus, he spoke with Victoria, who warned Isaiah of using Sean like this. Despite their conflict of interest, they agreed to let Sean continue but she also mentioned to Isaiah about checking up on the others and make sure that they were fine.[8]
Later, Isaiah pulled Sean out when Greyling lost his trail on Alice once more and dismissed him after deciding that Greyling's memories were a dead end. However, upon further contemplation and the teens' logical arguments, he allowed Sean to continue with Greyling's memories. After determining Alice destroyed the manuscript and committed suicide, Isaiah apologized to Sean and expressed his appreciation for all of their hard work. Before letting them go, Isaiah knew that the real work would begin soon enough.[9]
The Fear prong
Learning about the fear prong being in Mongolia, Isaiah determined Natalya having an ancestor during the Siege of Diaoyu Castle. Despite her outlook on reliving the battle, Isaiah continued to pressure her but advised her to take it one day at a time.[10] Checking on Sean again, Isaiah and Victoria informed him that his time with Greyling has plateaued but his own motor cortex has increased. Telling him his next ancestor is in Ireland,[11] Isaiah and Victoria informed him of his potential.[12]
While taking care of the teens' needs and desires,[13] he still sought the capture of the remaining teens Owen Meyers and Javier Mondragón. However, learning of the recent failed mission, he told his head of security Cole to kill them to stop their use to the Assassins.[14]
One morning, Isaiah and Victoria argue about Sean's usage of the Animus, which she accused him of manipulating the boy. Upon Sean's arrival, they later introduced him to Dr. Thomas Marshall and talked about the sessions being able to create prosthetics for him to walk again. While Sean sensed the tensions between Victoria and Isaiah, the director insisted Sean start his sessions again, but exploring his Viking ancestor Styrbjörn the Strong.[15]
However, both he and Victoria confront the teens after reviewing tapes a previous night and reprimand them after finding David out of his room and moving around the Aerie without permission. As a result, there will be a curfew and their doors will be locked.[16] The Aerie was later raided by the Assassins and Monroe, which led to Javier rescuing David and Natalya, but Owen and Monroe were captured by Isaiah.[3]
Grouping Grace, Owen, and Sean together, Isaiah tried to convince Owen that the Templars are not the enemy and enticed him with reliving his father's memories. While Owen remained defiant, Isaiah continued with the progress with Grace and Sean. Although Grace admitted to wanting to pause her Animus, Sean instantly agreed to resume his Animus sessions.[17] Afterwards, he showed Owen the last memories of his father's crime, yet he doctored the memory to influence Owen's allegiance.[18]
Defection from the Templars
With the last recent notes of Natalya's ancestral memories of the Mongolian Templar Bayan, Isaiah hastily moved and traveled to Mongolia to search for the Fear prong before the Assassins.[18] Before leaving the Aerie, he left a note for Victoria and the Order, renouncing the Templars.[5] Arriving in Mongolia, they began digging and looking for any clues for the fear prong.[19] However, they noticed an unmarked aircraft and had it shot down, fearful of the Assassins catching up to them.[20]
Corresponding with Victoria, who remained oblivious of Isaiah's true intentions, Isaiah learned that a container in his camp held Owen, Grace, and Monroe. Preparing to attack, he called them out and had them cornered. Apprehending them, Isaiah soon learned of the Assassins' survival and their makeshift camp. Ordering his men to blow them up, Grace pleaded and stated that David must be with them. Using the lights from Tuskegee airmen, she was able to have David come to them. Taking in David, Isaiah interrogated him on the Assassins' whereabouts. Upon Grace's insistence, David told Isaiah of them going around them towards a turtle statue.[21]
Readying his men, Isaiah and his own group of men left the camp to follow David's directions. Yet, he made sure that Owen, Monroe, and the Collins' could escape, to ensure the real location of the Assassins. Successfully, he soon found and surrounded the teens at the real burial site. Holding them all at gunpoints, they were soon ambushed by Assassins Griffin and Yanmei, whose attack had Grace, Owen, and Javier attack the others. In the mayhem, Isaiah escaped into the Khan's tomb but was followed by Owen and Javier.[5]
Isaiah made his way to the tomb and acquired the fear prong while Javier soon came towards him. Using the prong, Isaiah inflicted Javier with nightmares before running out of the tomb. Back in the cave's entrance, Isaiah used the prong on everyone around him. While Owen and Javier came into the room again, they were inflicted as well. Yanmei tried to attack Isaiah but proves too imbalanced while Isaiah stabbed her and tossed her aside. Commanding his remaining troops, he proclaimed himself no longer a Templar. Leaving with his men, they provided cover while they made their way back to the Aerie.[5]
The Devotion prong
Arriving at the Aerie, Isaiah dismissed Anaya Chodary from supervising Sean and took him away from Victoria and Abstergo to find the last remaining prong.[22] With the two prongs, he manipulated all the security from the Aerie and made his way with Sean to the Isle of Skye as a temporary base. When the Templars sent two teams after him, Isaiah used the prongs to enslave the first team to his whim before moving to another base in Sweden to avoid the second team.[23]
There, Isaiah kept an eye on Sean while lying to him about his friends and Victoria betraying the Templars to work with the Assassins.[24] Using a van with artificial intelligence, Poindexter, he made sure that Sean traveled to the Animus with ease and looked over Sean's memories, especially when coming across Christian king Harald Bluetooth, who held the devotion prong. Realizing that Sean's ancestor Styrbjörn was immune to the prong, he told Sean that he will end the simulation. However, upon Sean's refusal, he abruptly ended the session, hurting Sean's exit from the Animus, and used the prongs against Sean as punishment.[25]
Using his worst fears against Sean, Isaiah soon used the faith prong to manipulate the boy into obeying him without question. Letting Sean continue, he learned that Harald was forced to give the dagger to Styrbjörn in order to rest with his men. Yet, due to the disrespect, King Bluetooth and his army abandoned Styrbjörn before the battle for Svealand.[26] After determining that the dagger was placed in a mound as a wedding gift to the gods between Styrbjörn and Thyra Haraldsdottir, Isaiah initially pulled Sean out of the Animus while thinking about another path.[27]
Out of options, Isaiah subjected Sean to relive all his ancestor's memories as a last ditch effort to find any missed detail. Although Sean begged to stop, Isaiah continued the sessions with Sean. However, Cole came and informed him about her discovery of the dagger in Västerås as well as Griffin's arrival with Owen, Natalya, and Grace. Relieved, he stopped Sean's session but left him restrained in the Animus. Before leaving, he stated to Sean that he had no use for broken things.[28]
At night, Isaiah ordered his men to break into the building which housed the dagger. However, they were met by Griffin, who stole it first but took a shot to the stomach.[29] Soon, Isaiah and his men lost track of Griffin and his teens. Waiting them out, he soon found Griffin's car and waited for his enemies to draw themselves out. Catching the teens at the car, Isaiah and his team cornered them while Cole took the prong from Grace's hands. Announcing himself to be Fenrir, he was met with resistance by Owen, who called him out on his delusions and stated Monroe figured out the Ascendance Event.[30]
Lining them up to be shot,[30] he ridiculed them all on their fears before pointing his gun on Owen. Suddenly, Isaiah moved out of the way once Poindexter arrived and stopped between him and the teens. With Sean inside, the teens were rescued and driven away to coordinates sent by Victoria.[31] Failing to secure the teens, he prepared an assault on the Aerie.[32]
Attack on the Aerie and his death
Isaiah and his mind-controlled forces set out an assault by both air and ground against the Aerie, which was protected by Victoria, Monroe, and the teens. However, his forces dealt with traps and snares and blocked roads. Even after losing a helicopter, his forces proved greater as they forced his opponents further into the garage. While they were cornered, Isaiah ordered his men to kill them. However, Sean challenged Isaiah to a duel and claimed that he knew Isaiah's fears. Angered, he used his completed Trident against all of them. However, Owen broke through his fears and told his friends to accept them. Soon, they all overcame the Trident's power.[32]
Isaiah used the Trident twice more but soon Owen and his friends combatted it with ease and saw Isaiah plainly. Unaffected, Isaiah was attacked by Owen and his friends. No match to their attacks, Isaiah was disarmed and beaten sorely to the ground. Before he could reach the Trident, Javier came towards him with Griffin's hidden blade. Isaiah was then quickly killed, which led to all of his men gaining their senses and his plan of world domination thwarted.[32]
