Alexandre de Hautecourt was the Grand Master of the Parisian Rite of the Templar Order at the time of the Labourd witch-hunt of 1609.[1]

Biography

Already a very old man with a white beard and seemingly fragile appearance by 1609, Hautecourt continued to be highly regarded by the Templars under his rule. Following Pierre de Lancre's mission of discovering new Pieces of Eden under the guise of a witchhunt, the Grand Master presided over the debriefing at Paris. Though Pierre had uncovered a Shroud of Eden that had been stolen by the Assassins some time prior and killed one of the thieves, his actions also led to civil unrest and allowed the Assassin apprentice Margaux to escape with the item.[1]

Hautecourt considered all the evidence presented in the session, including a report on de Lancre by La Morguy, before declaring Pierre de Lancre unable to lead further operations, but allowing him to keep his rank due to his history of service in the Order. The Grand Master also charged him with training new recruits, beginning with Ermeline.[1]
