The Forty Thieves was a group of thieves that operated in Baghdad during the 9th century. Comprising of forty members and led by their leader Kasim, the group was based in a hideout where they hid their riches in a cave behind a giant door that could only be opened by a code phrase.

Some time in 860s, the Forty Thieves began working with the renowned merchant Ali Baba. When he came close to uncovering their secrets behind the door, they had him silenced to prevent him for revealing the secrets. Ali Baba's daughter Murjana, sensing the danger her father had placed himself in, enlisted the help of the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq to locate the thieves' hideout.[1]
