Ferreira de Ortega

Ferreira de Ortega was the daughter of the Spanish Templar Alejandro Estrada de Ortega. Unlike her brothers, who were groomed from an early age, Ferreira and her sisters were excluded from joining the order, instead destined for a domestic life.

At the age of seventeen, after being told she was to be married to a husband chosen by her parents, Ferreira ran away from home, breaking all ties with her family. From then on, she pursued a "life of adventure", plundering treasure from Maya ruins and engaging various pirates in battle, becoming a fierce one herself.

In 2012, the Templar front company Abstergo Industries used her genetic memories as the basis for the Animi Avatar called the "Rebel", which Abstergo Entertainment implemented in their efforts to influence the general public via the Animus Omega.

Behind the scenes

Ferreira is a variant of Latin ferraria, meaning "iron mine; a place where iron is worked". De Ortega is a Spanish surname that translates to "of Ortega", referring to one of Spain's many villages called Ortega. Ortega itself is derived from Latin urtica, meaning "nettle".
