The Exitus is an Abstergo Industries research vessel based in Southeast Asia.
History
Search for the Piece of Eden
In 2023, the vessel served as the main base of operations for the Templar Shimazu Sei and her team, who had been tasked with locating a Piece of Eden found by the British Assassin Edward Kenway. After learning about the Korean-American student Noa Kim, a descendant of Edward, through the WhyYou genetic genealogy site, Abstergo lured him to Macau on the pretense of a vacation prize trip and kidnapped him.[1]
Once aboard the Exitus, Noa was forced to relive Edward's memories in the Animus under Sei's supervision to find the whereabouts of the Piece of Eden. However, Noa caused a number of synchronization errors during his first Animus session, so Sei had him removed from the machine and struck a deal with him, promising Noa his freedom in exchange for his cooperation.[2]
Noa was subsequently removed from the Animus several more times, as to avoid succumbing to the Bleeding Effect. In-between his Animus sessions, he resided in a small room aboard the ship containing minimal living facilities, such as a bed and a window.[2]
On one occasion, Noa left the Exitus alongside Sei and a number of Abstergo guards, in order to follow up on a lead in the A-Ma Cultural Village to help them trace Edward's footsteps. When this happened, he was handed a blindfold and a pair of headphones by Sei, as test subjects were not allowed to see most areas of the ship.[3]
After more Animus sessions, the team was forced to relocate to Cebu in the Philippines in order to physically trace Edward's footsteps. When this happened, Noa finally realized that he had been held aboard a ship the entire time after hearing a voice over the loudspeaker ordering the personnel to prepare for departure.[4]
The Exitus sailed to Cebu without incident, though it was secretly followed by members of the Zhawang Corporation and Doom Eagle, who sought to rescue Noa from Abstergo's captivity.[5] After Noa and Sei survived an attack by Doom Eagle in Cebu, they returned to the Exitus to continue tracking Edward's memories in the Animus.[6]
Retrieval of the crescent amulet
Noa and Sei were eventually successful in learning the whereabouts of a crescent amulet hidden in the Strait of Malacca, although the former succumbed to the Bleeding Effect shortly after and went on a rampage aboard the Exitus,[7] killing numerous guards, including several Sigma Team operatives.[8] Meanwhile, Sei called her superiors, who ordered Noa's termination, believing he had outlived his usefulness. However, Sei disagreed and was contacted by a hacking syndicate, who breached the Exitus' security and put her on call with the Assassin Nathan Zhang.[7]
