Abu-Abdullah Muhammad ibn Īsa Māhānī (died 860s) was a Persian astronomer and mathematician who flourished during the 9th century. In his last years, he was based in Baghdad, where he produced commentaries on Euclid's Elements, Archimedes' On the Sphere and Cylinder, and Menelaus of Alexandria's Sphaerica.[1] Among his other works was an early theory on heliocentrism instead of the long-held geocentric model,[2] a belief that would not be suitably countered until the Renaissance over 600 later by the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.[3]

Al-Mahani is a historical character introduced in Assassin's Creed: Mirage as part of the "Tales of Baghdad" side quests. While he did live in Baghdad around the 860s, he historically died roughly 2 decades later in 880.
