Djedefre
Djedefre was a pharaoh during the Fourth Dynasty of Egypt. He was the son and successor of Khufu.
One of the theories behind the origins of the Great Sphinx of Giza posits that Djedefre had it built to pay homage to his father, and the temple on the eastern face of the Sphinx would have been added later on by his brother and successor, Khafre, in order to strengthen the divine worship of their father.[1] Though another theory suggests that the Sphinx was built by Khafre to represent himself and yet another says that Khufu started the construction and his sons would complete it.[2]
Djedefre followed the custom that required each king to establish a new site for their funerary accommodation, and chose Abu Rawash as his resting place.[3]
