The Commanders District of the Round City of Baghdad was located east of the Caliphal Palace, where it was home to numerous government and military builings, the most notable being the Shurta Headquarters.

In the 860s, the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq travelled to the district to investigate the Tahirid governor Muhammad ibn Tahir, who was suspected as being the Ra's Al-Af'a of the Order of the Ancients.[1]
