Beshi (died 860s) was a member of the Zanj rebels, serving as second in command to the rebellion's leader Ali ibn Muhammad. Like his leader, Beshi was an ally to the Hidden Ones and assisted in their efforts against the Order of the Ancients in Baghdad.

Biography

Assisting the Hidden Ones

Beshi was a former slave who was freed from his fate by Ali ibn Muhammad,[1] a former high-ranking Abbasid dignitary who resolved to bring about a free world.[2] Granted his freedom, Beshi joined Ali in his quest and became his second-in-command. His own calm and measured personality served as a counter to Ali's own violent and volatile impulses, which sometimes prevent his leader from doing brash actions.[1]

Around 862, Ali and the rebellion began working alongside the Hidden Ones, assisting in their efforts against the Order of the Ancients. The brotherhood, in turn, also helped to provide aid to the rebels in Baghdad. Ali's involvement with the Hidden Ones resulted in his capture. While trying to locate Ali's whereabouts, Beshi and the rebels were based at the Upper Harbor in the Harbiyah district. Some of his men were captured on orders of Al-Ghul, a member of the Order. While trying to find a way to rescue them, Beshi met the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq, who came to continue Nur's investigation.[3]

Beshi was later captured by the Turkic warlord Wasif Al Turki, another member of the Order, and was executed at The Great Garrison in Sharqiyah.[4]
