Hetepi (c. 90s BCE – 48 BCE), also known as The Lizard, was a Second Priest of Ptah, serving under the High Priest Pasherenptah in Memphis and a member of the Order of the Ancients during the reign of Ptolemy XIII. He was involved in the poisoning of the Apis Bull at some point around 49 BCE.[1]

In 48 BCE the Medjay Bayek discovered that the Lizard was one of priests at the Great Temple of Ptah. Although the priests all dressed similarly, Bayek was able to identify Hetepi by his coughing, and killed him as revenge against the Order of the Ancients for their involvement in his son's death.

Trivia

  • Hetepi's mask is the representation of the Egyptian god Anubis, who is often associated with mummification and the afterlife.
