The Sorrowful Surrender was a katana that Fujibayashi Naoe obtained in 1582. That year, fellow Kakushiba ikki member Yasuke was tasked by retainer Hori Hidemasa with eliminating a group of samurai that had been involved in the Honnō-ji incident, including Sato Genta. Naoe and Yasuke tracked Sato to Azuchi, Ōmi, where they assassinated him. From his personal effects, they retrieved the sword.[1]
