Assassin's Creed IV is the theoretical title of the sixth main installment in the Assassin's Creed series. Amongst these are that the next game does not have to be set after Assassin's Creed III's American Revolutionary War setting,[1] and that settings such as World War II, Feudal Japan and Egypt are not likely to be featured as they are considered "boring" and unoriginal for Assassin's Creed.[2] An interview with Assassin's Creed III's scriptwriter Matt Turner gave a probable release date of 2013 or 2014 for Assassin's Creed IV.[3]
In an interview with Eurogamer, creative director Alex Hutchinson acknowledged the possibility of creating another game based on Assassin's Creed III protagonist Connor, which will depend on the fan reaction he receives. Hutchinson nonetheless said that the developers would like to create a new protagonist and setting for each game, and that they will refrain from creating trilogies for one single protagonist like they did with Ezio Auditore.[4]
It has been revealed that Ubisoft has partnered with two French government research organizations in order to help them with the upcoming installment. They have started development for the game in January 2013 in France.[5]
On February 7 2013, Ubisoft announced that the next installment would feature a new character, time period, and also a new developer. However, Ubisoft has not announced which developer will be creating the next game, and said that the game will be released some time before April 2014.[6]
