Viridovix was a Gallic gladiator who fought in the Krokodilopolis Arena in Egypt along with his brother, Diovicos, during the mid-1st century BCE.
Biography
Viridovix fought with a large scythe in combat, and he and his brother were undefeated in the Krokodilopolis Arena in Faiyum, Egypt, as well as fierce rivals of the gladiator Kensa.[1] When not in the arena, the brothers served as mercenaries to the Nomarch of Faiyum and member of the Order of the Ancients, Berenike, also known as the Crocodile.[2]
In 48 BCE, they were present when Berenike drowned the girl Shadya for stealing a ledger naming members of the Order.[2] The Medjay Bayek was hunting for the Crocodile at the time, and confronted the brothers in the arena with the help of Kensa. Upon being defeated, they admitted to Bayek that Berenike was the Crocodile and the murderer of Shadya. As Bayek left the arena, he threw Viridovix's scythe to the ground, sparing their lives.[3] They would continue to fight in the arena afterwards, even trying to reclaim their title against Bayek upon his re-entry in the arena games.[1]
