The man known as The Butcher (died 48 BCE) was a Greek citizen of Egypt and an ally of Berenike, a member of the Order of the Ancients and the nomarch of Faiyum during the reign of Ptolemy XIII.
Biography
The Butcher was a wealthy noble who owned and lived in a villa in Soknopaiou Nesos. His wealth largely came from stealing grain from the Egyptian villagers in the Faiyum, which he did so with the help of Berenike, the nomarch of Faiyum and a member of the Order of the Ancients. The Butcher was given a number of soldiers and bodyguards to do his bidding, including torturing and beating up farmers in Karanis who refused to give up their grain.[1]
The Butcher's operation was eventually discovered by the Medjay Bayek of Siwa in 48 BCE, who confronted the Butcher in his villa.
