The Sultanate of Sulu was a sultanate that ruled the Sulu Archipelago in the Philippines and the northeastern parts of Borneo from the 1450s until 1915.[1]
In 1725, in an attempt to buy time for Edward Kenway and his crew of Fenghuang from the Spanish Navy, Jan van Aert, the chief navigator of the Dutch East India Company in Macau, suggested Edward to first depart from Manila and head south to Sulu, where they would reconvene with one another.[2]
Sometime later, after recovering the crescent amulet from Rajah,[3] Edward, crippled under the influence of the amulet, gave orders for the crew to head south to Sulu, where they had agreed to meet Jan.[4]
