Simonides was a Greek magistrate of Cyrene who lived during the 1st century BCE.

Biography

In 48 BCE, Simonides was present in the bathhouse of Alexandria, where he discussed the reign of the Egyptian pharaoh Ptolemy XIII with his fellow colleagues. It was during this time when the Royal Scribe Eudoros was assassinated by the Medjay Bayek of Siwa.[1]

A year later, Simonides worked alongside fellow magistrate Diocles to uncover the corruption of Leander, a third magistrate who had allied himself with Flavius Metellus. Though Simonides went to the party at Leander's Villa in order to find proof of Leander's corruption, he lost himself in the pleasures offered, and the following day fondly reminisced about his acquaintance Ipthos losing his toga.[2]
