The Sakai Firearm District

The Sakai Firearm District was a firearms production district in Sakai in Izumi Settsu, Japan.

History

In early 1582, the Igan kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe arrived in Sakai and talked with the merchants in the district. However, when she mentioned golden engraved teppō, no one was able to help. While in the district, she eavesdropped and overheard two gunsmiths talking about trade forgeries and about talking with Imai Sōkyū. With this, Naoe confronted them and demanded the papers. Both of them ran away, which led Naoe to chase and kill Asajiro for the paper. With this paper, she went to meet Sōkyū at his residence in the city.[1]
