Rifts

I wanted to ask you something. Which is... what's your name? This article title is conjecture. Although the article subject is canon, no official name for it has been given.

300px|framed|right|The Abstergo Phone Records. Rifts appear to be breaks in the programming of memories within the Animus, which can be seen using Eagle Vision. Each of the ten rifts are found on key landmarks throughout Rome, and conceal Subject 16's cluster puzzles in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

Rifts are the equivalent of Glyphs from Assassin's Creed II, but instead of revealing a second Truth video, they simply relay the message "The miracle is in the execution" over the apparent ultrasound of an unborn child, along with an executable file.

Unlike Glyphs, Rifts cannot be seen or accessed without Eagle Vision active. Ezio Auditore must actually grab the edge of the Rift while Eagle Vision is active, then climb in.

Various hidden messages such as coded numbers and letters, music notes and morse code appear in the Rifts. These rifts explain Abstergo Industries rise to power.

Locations

Castra Praetoria

In the inner courtyard where Octavian de Valois was assassinated, on the eastern wall.

Rosa in Fiore

On the outside north wall of the brothel, on the second floor wall.

Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria di Montesant

On the western tower near the left dome.

Aventino

On the Borgia tower, facing north towards the city.

Castel Sant'Angelo

On the actual cylinder of the castle, on the south side where the top of the outer wall is closest to the cylinder, near a haystack, right below a circular window.

Caserma di Alviano

East side of the wall, on the outside of the perimeter, facing the aqueduct.

Acquedotto Claudia

Near the small town where Leonardo frequently is located at, on the north side of aqueduct. Climb onto the top of the aqueduct, then drop down over the side to reach it. It is located very close to the Borgia tower, but on the opposite side of the aqueduct.

Colosseo

At the very top, northern side of the Colosseo, just west of the View Point. It is on the outside wall, and if you have trouble finding it, use the Colosseo's buy landmark sign as a point of reference, as the rift is almost exactly above that.

Palazzo Senatorio

On the back of the Palazzo, near the roof, towards the end of the free-running path.

Pantheon

Inside the Pantheon, on the wall right above the main entrance. You can obtain this cluster by entering the pantheon on free running up the wall near the entrance then walk around and jump on it.

Any traces of this plan should appear to implicate the U.S. government. The Company's involvement must remain hidden.

For successful examples of a similar opening of the markets, look no further than the 1953 liberation of Iran and the 1954 liberation of Guatemala.

The Miracle

Immediately after solving the final cluster, a short video was unlocked that stated "The miracle is in the execution" while the ultrasound of an unborn child was shown. Rebecca notes that (unlike the video hidden in the previous game) the Cluster puzzles actually conceal an executable file.

Upon accessing the file, Desmond was then uploaded to an unknown area within the Animus, where he was free to run through a somewhat long virtual maze similar to those within the Animus Virtual Training Program. At the end of the maze, Desmond found a hologram (partially broken and made of computing code) of Subject 16, who had told Desmond that all hope was lost, and that he must go to Eden to find a woman named Eve. Before leaving, he instructed Desmond to find him in the darkness. The program ended with the ground collapsing from under Desmond's feet, and a loading screen showing Desmond in free fall.

Trivia

• Completing the final Rift puzzle after completing the present world segment in the Colosseum (getting the apple, stabbing Lucy, and being put back in the Animus) you will still be able to hear the voices of the modern Assassins (Rebecca, Shaun and even Lucy) but you will also no longer end in Desmond in free fall but in ordinary loading screen still featuring Desmond and you will also no longer exit the Animus as this is impossible post-game but return as Ezio. (confirmed in PC)
